Selecting your beer to brew

We recommend starting with a simple beer for your first batch. Typically, this means an ale, because this broad style allows for simple recipes, and short fermentation times. However, you’re encouraged to find your favorite style and try to ‘clone’ that beer! Below is a good guideline to the traditional styles of beer:


There are many variations on each style of beer. I highly encourage the aspiring homebrewer to research what style you like, and look for recipes online. On our Recipe Builder page, I’ve included a simple template to help you formulate your own recipe!
